It’s shocking to me the number of people I talk to that "intend" on starting their own home based business, but never do.

What’s stopping them?

Well, there are about as many different reasons as there are people, but one universal barrier is that people don’t have a sufficient education. No, I’m NOT saying you’re as "dumb as an ox" or "you don’t have the brain power God gave a crowbar", I’m saying that when you start anything new you simply don’t know everything you need to know. Listen, Oprah didn’t know everything she needed to know about being the worlds greatest talk show host when she started, and Donald Trump didn’t know everything he needed to know about being a billionaire real estate mogul when he was starting out either.

Ok, you know that, right? Here’s the thing. This lack of knowledge can prevent us from moving forward because on a concious or subconcious level we recognize we don’t know everything we need to know and we lock up. And like I said you may not even realize it because it’s subconcious.

In the classic book Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill listed "insufficient education" as one of the causes of failure. Here’s what he said…

"Insufficient education. This is a handicap which may be overcome with comparative ease. Experience has proven that the best-educated people are often those who are known as "self-made," or self-educated. It takes more than a college degree to make one a person of education. Any person who is educated is one who has learned to get whatever he wants in life without violating the rights of others. Education consists, not so much of knowledge, but of knowledge effectively and persistently applied. Men are paid, not merely for what they know, but more particularly for what they do with that which they know."

He correctly reveals that the lack of knowledge can easily be overcome. Look, both Oprah and Donald Trump attribute much of their success to having mentors guide them along the path, teaching them the things they did not know. You can do the same, you can become self-educated plus find mentors along the way to provide the education you lack.

So if you’ve been planning on starting a business, home based or other wise, and you’ve never quite gotten around to it, then do a little soul searching and analyze if this lack of knowledge thing is creating a barrier that you may not be aware of. If it is, then recognize that you are every bit as smart as those who have gone before you and it’s ok to gain the knowledge you need as you go, because if you wait until you know everything there is to know, you’ll discover it’s a long wait.

So take action now and kick down those barriers that are preventing you from realizing your dreams and aspirations and become the better you!
