Dealing With Guests

Home Business StrategiesWorking at home couldn’t be more difficult than when you have to share you work space with visiting family or friends from out of town.

If you are able, please provide them a room at the closest hotel.  If you are not able or they are not willing, you will have to accomodate them while you successfully work at the same time.

Be sure you time your visits around any large events or deadlines that are on your calendar.  Not being open with the right timing on your visits, you will most likely cause some trouble.  If your visits are scheduled, be sure to keep your calendar open during that time as if you are lined up with business appointments so you won’t have to deal with issues of conflict.  A little planning can go a long way.

No matter what, walk through the visit in you mind.  Discover the areas that could become problematic and then kindly lay some ground rules and offer a printed schedule for the week.  This will eliminate any hurt feelings or frustration.  Most guests will be more than willing to accomodate your schedule.

Don’t forget to set guidelines on phone usage including who is going to answer the phone.  Consider if you are going to have to bed someone where your  computer or office files may be located.  If so, be sure and make changes on timing or place someone there who is willing to be flexible.
