Staying Safe At Home

small business privacy
When you work out of your home there are many issues that you are going to have
to deal with.  Zoning, separating work and home life, making good choices of
equipment and of course safety.

You may not think about it, but consider
what would happen if you all of a sudden had people coming to your house to
respond to a sale or business deal.

What if your personal blog is online
displaying your family and someone ties your business and personal connection.
Could this put you or your family in danger?

About a year ago, our home
business grew to a point of notoriety online and many people begin to call and
inquire of our services.  A few months after the exposure began we started
noticing pictures of our family showing up in Google as well as pictures of our
children on image sites.

We immediately realized what had happened.  Our
personal information was our business contact information and ‘one’ email
address tied it all together.  At this time, we didn’t think much about
it.

We rec’d a call one day by a person who wanted to meet with us and
they knew a good deal about our personal lives.  Thankfully this person was not
a threat.

Immediately we changed our mailing address to a postal service
(physical address post office box) and removed all images and contact numbers
from the web.

When establishing your home based business be sure to
install a secondary phone number and establish a postal address that is NOT the
physical address of your home.

Privacy and safety needs to be a priority
for anyone deciding to work from home.
