Home Business Productivity
Nothing is more irritating than not having enough time to finish your day. Unfortunately, most home business owners struggle with juggling many tasks that consume too much of their time.
Productivity is a key element in any business, especially home business. Surveys have shown that some of the biggest time wasters are usually the least critical tasks during your day.
Answering the phone, reading email, and personal/relational intermissions are among the most influentual eaters of time.
To better organize your day, you need to schedule these three activities.
Phone calls. Take calls only during set hours. If you have a voicemail system, only check the voicemail once per hour. If something is so critical it needs quicker attention, organize an ‘urgent’ response for your voicemail.
Return calls at set times during the day, not every time they come in. Constantly being on the phone will eliminate productivity by 40%.
Emails can take every minute of your day if you don’t get them under control. Read and respond to emails first thing in the morning. If you can’t respond to a particular request. Reply stating that you will get back to them later that day. This will help in eliminating annoying follow up calls and drop in visits.
Speaking of visits. Don’t allow your day to be ruled by personal chats and clients just popping in whenever. Be firm and set a time or more particularly set one or two days per week that you have open appointments. If someone needs you, make an appointment for one of those days only.
Being productive while working at home is essential for success. Take notes, stay focused, and succeed!
